Make your ropes ready for shibari
Here you can see some useful videos showing how to treat raw natural rope to make it suitable for Shibari.
Here we demonstrate how to best treat rope using jojoba oil.
Jojoba oil makes your ropes heavier and smoother. If you want your ropes to be lighter, choose beeswax. However, this requires a slightly different treatment.
We also demonstrate one type of finish, but below are other possible finishes that may be more suitable. This video also demonstrates several storage techniques.
Overhand knot
Here we see how to tie an overhand knot. A traditional knot that is commonly used because it is easy to tie. However, because this knot is quite thick, it can get stuck during lashing.
Slinky overhand knot
In this video, I explain how to tie a slinky overhand knot. The knot is largely the same as the overhand knot, with the difference that the strings lie next to each other, which creates a smoother finish. I definitely recommend this knot for posh ropes.
whipping end
Just like in the first video, I'm making a whipping end here. It's a bit more detailed and also has a longer end, which makes it last longer. This is a small finishing touch that ensures the rope doesn't get caught during bondage. Tighten everything well so that the rope can't come loose.
Thistle knot
A very complex but very beautiful knot. Traditionally, it is widely used because it reflects the rigger's experience in this knot alone. It takes some practice, but once you have mastered it, it is a fun knot to tie.
